Gwilym is a new member to the Actors File team and we are very excited to have him on board.
Gwilym was born in Swansea in 1963 but grew up in Cambridge where his father was a University Professor and his mother a translator of French.
Initially studying for two years at the City Lit, Gwilym entered Drama Centre in September 2005, two months after the birth of his daughter, to do an MA in Classical Acting. The highpoint of the course, for Gwilym, was eight weeks spent at the Vahktangov Institute in Moscow, school founded by one of Stanislavski’s original disciples with a renowned physical training. Since leaving Drama Centre Gwilym has particularly enjoyed playing Billy in FIVE KINDS OF SILENCE, Pentheus in BACHAEFULL (Time Out Show of the week), Moter in BLACK LIGHT (the UK premiere of a play from El Salvador by Alvaro Desleal), Leontes in THE WINTER’S TALE, Sir John Brute in THE PROVOKED WIFE and SMIRNOV in Chekov's THE BEAR.
He enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with his family.
GWILYM'S CURRENT SHOW FOR LONDON BUBBLE, IN WHICH HE PLAYS ODYSSEUS:
Thanks to the goodwill of stakeholding gods, the kindseas of Fan Made Theatre now wash the good ship London Bubble on to the beaches of London open spaces to embark on an Odyssey.
Young Athena persuades her stubborn father Zeus to release the war hero Odysseus from the clutches of the sea nymph Calypso. Shipwrecked he is found by a Princess and encouraged to tell the story of his traumatic encounter with the Cyclops and of his brushes with sirens, sea monsters and the sacred bulls of heaven.
Don't miss out on the most exciting voyage of the summer!
London Bubble will conjure all their skills to tell this epic promenade story and fire the collective imagination of audiences of all ages. With a brilliant adaptation from Simon Startin, beautiful designs from Jane Linz Roberts and haunting melodies from composer Martina Schwarz, Jonathan Petherbridge directs a cast mixing wit, charisma and experience in Eva Alexander, Becky Barry, Dan Copeland, Nick Goode, Grethe Jensen, Gwilym Lloyd, Eric MacLennan and Matthew Woodyatt. Not to mention a technical crew who are the equal of Odysseus's loyal seafarers in stamina and cunning.
